Ridge Ave and N. Broad Street – Horse Watering Trough – circa 1910

In the late nineteenth century Bell H. Crump, a native of New York, donated the funds to erect this horse watering trough fountain at the, then bustling, juncture of Ridge Avenue and North Broad Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “Donated by Bell H. Crump,” is carved within the rim of the fountain.

There was one on these round Horse Watering Troughs at the intersection of Kensington and Frankford Avenues in my childhood at the northern tip of Womrath Park.
