3731 Frankford Ave - Old 45th Ward Democratic Club

The old Democratic Club of the 45th Ward, 3731 Frankford Ave. east side of Frankford, north of Erie (present day Castor) per 4/6/92 Builders Guide, Thomas McComeskey, a local low level GOP pol who built quite a few spec houses around the up and coming Frankford Junction of the P.R.R.. V.F.W. in the 1930s after McComeskey's death, his primary residence per obit. Democratic Club in the 50s and 60s, where I went to some kid's Christmas party in Dec.1959, and where my Dad on the occasional Sunday, bought a day membership to drink in a private club on the Christian Sabbath. Quite dry back then, or Dad would drink on a day membership at the Republican club three doors or so down the street. McComeskey's spec house six houses down from the George L. Horn House, another GOP pol, next to the lot he sold to the city, the southern end of his property for 18K to build the George L Horn School, 1902, still standing.

3731 Frankford lost its third story somewhere along time line. Probably, except for brownstone lintels on the windows and door, looked a lot like 3620 Frankford Ave., down the street.

While we are talking the old Harrowgate neighborhood, 3620 Frankford I passed everyday of my 8 years at SJA grade school. In first grade, we called it the "haunted house" dirty, abandoned, boards on the windows etc, And then some relative from Germany, a lady in her late twenties or early thirties, moved in and did a slow but thorough personal hands on rehab of the place bringing it up to a presentable house and home stage. Stellar house in the neighborhood then btw. She spoke German, never married as we could tell and lived there probably until recently upon her demise, my speculations on that. My own point is that that building survives to this day in such exterior perfect condition because of a rehab 60 years ago. If you want to keep up your property, you have got to keep up your property so to speak.
