THE AMEBICUS CLUB.
FORMAL OCCUPATlON OF ITS NEW AND  HAND
SOME QUARTERS ON BROAD STREET,
BELOW CHESTNUT.

The Americus Club formally opened its new club house, No. 113 South Broad street, yesterday afternoon, the event being honored by the presence of nearly the whole of the three hundred and seven members of the organization. The latter was originally founded at the residence of Dr. Judah Isaacs, No 513 Pine street, on the evening of April 30, 1867, by Messrs. Lewis C. Cassidy, John Kelsh, John P. Delaney, John Welsh, Dr. Isaacs, William B. Hood, George Concannon, W. W. Dougherty, David A. Nagle, James Stewart, John White, John O. Grady and Andrew J. McGrath. Two years later a charter was obtained, and the building at No. 241 South Fifth street purchased for the sum of $12,500, which the club made its headquarters until the latter part of 1874, when a removal to the northwest comer cf Eleventh and Chestnut streets was made. After staying there for about two years the club returned to the Fifth street quarters. The new club house on Broad street has been taken on a three years' lease with the privilege of renewal, and $2500 have been spent in improving, altering and furnishing. The club has now very handsome, well appointed and magnificently furnished quarters, and the throng of members who visited them yesterday were unanimous in their expresses of satisfaction over the elegance and comfort of the new house. The office of president in the club is now vacant, in respect to the memory of the late president, Hon. David A Nagie. The other officers are William D. Kendrick, vice president; William F. McCully, secretary, and Francis J. Kelley, treasurer.
