Temple Hospital Receiver of Large Portion of Forepaugh Circus Family Fortune - 1919 thru 1946

Adam Forepaugh Jr. 1870

Only surviving child, and without children, Adam Forepaugh Jr, left his approximate $400,000 fortune in trust to his two wives, the first legal wife Lily Deacon Forepaugh, separated since around 1886, and his second common law wife Helene Smith Forepaugh with whom he lived with for thirty plus years. Both originally circus performers. After death, the trust funds would be donated to various charitable institutions besides Temple Hospital.

Helene Smith Forepaugh only survived Adam Jr. by ten days, so Temple got its first half of the $100,000 Forepaugh largesse in 1919. The other half in 1946 per the death of Lilly Forepaugh.
